Nicely written article and it matches my own experience. Building a scalable, maintainable code system is not something that Claude code is allowing us to do yet. The hope is that perhaps in time it gets there, but I wonder how much scaffolding and other rules, protocols and schemas need to be built before that can be generalized.

I too feel dumber, and lazier, as a result of some of the tools. Not only in coding but also in writing. I find that any of the AIs will take my fine point and irrespective of the prompt I give, make it blunt. I have gone back to writing succinctly by hand. The main difference from before is that I am writing less slop and only the finer points, probably because now I have a better understanding of what slop looks like.
